So you have finally found what could be your perfect partner online, you’ve seen their photograph, you’ve been sending emails back and forth for months, and you may have even spoke to them on the phone. But now the time has finally come to meet them face to face, and you’re feeling kind of nervous. Don’t worry you are not alone, most people who meet their “online date” offline for the very first time get the jitters too. Here are my top 5 tips to having a successful first time date with your online love.

1. First impressions count. Most people will make their minds up about someone within the first 5-10 seconds of meeting them. So with keeping this in mind make sure you dress to impress. Take the time to pick out the right clothes, and take a comb with you to ensure that your hair doesn’t get messed up on the journey.

2. Take a gift. When meeting your online date for the first time you could surprise them with a little gift. If you are meeting a woman, flowers, chocolates, or a bottle of wine always go down well. Or why not make your gift a little more personal. Think back to all those emails or phone conversations and try to remember something that your date will really love.

3. Try to appear confident and relaxed. I know you may be feeling jittery inside, but try to not let these feelings show. Whatever mood you appear to be in when you meet your date, will rub off on them. So if you appear relaxed and confident so will your date.

4. Be a good listener. It is important that you listen attentively to your date when they are talking. Try not to daydream, because this may give your date the impression that you aren’t interested in what they have to say. Similarly try not to talk to much, let them get a word in edge ways.

5. Finally there are plenty more fish in the sea. Don’t beat yourself up if your date goes horribly wrong. Instead jump back on the online dating bandwagon.
