Online dating can be an extremely fun and exciting experience. But sometimes in all the excitement some people can seem to forget about their own personal safety. Dating online is all about meeting new people, and maybe even finding love right? But sometimes, people you meet online aren’t always as they seem, and it’s important your realise this in order to keep yourself safe.

My first piece of advice when it comes to staying safe whilst dating online is to find a reputable online dating website. Have a look around and find one that takes safety of it’s member seriously. Some sites allow you the ability to block people from your profile, and report people that you may feel uncomfortable chatting too.

Try and keep your personal information safe. Details like your address, phone number and where you work should never be given out online, no matter how comfortable you feel about the person you are sharing them with. Remember until you actually meet someone face to face and know the ins and outs of them they are still a stranger.

If you find someone that you may be interested in, then take your time and get to know them. You should chat with them online via the dating website or email for a t least a few months before arranging any kind of offline meetings. Try and find out all you can about them to determine if they really are who they seem to be and if they are the right person for you.

If you do eventualy decide to meet someone offline, then try and meet in a crowded place like a cafe or restaurant. Another good idea when meeting someone offline for the first time is to take a friend with you. Don’t take your date back home with you on your first date, this is just asking for trouble. If you get along try and arrange a few more dates before you share your address with them.
